Below is a press release from icrossing
This weeks knowledge sharing session came as a breath of fresh creative air from local artist, and winner of the coveted Brighton & Hove Artists Open Houses award, Tim Slatter.
We chose Tim from the 200 exhibiting artists back in May during the Brighton Festival. Over the last few months we have been working with Tim on how he interprets our data and he has come up with some fresh new ways we can communicate our findings.
Tim Slatter is a professional landscape etcher who painstakingly transfers his sketches to his etching steels by hand. Using the traditional method of first drawing his detailed images into the beeswax coated steel he then throwing these plates into etching acid. The acid “bites” into the metal, where it is exposed, leaving behind lines sunken into the plate. Unusually Tim also uses just one press and a mix of colours which are rubbed carefully into the etched lines.
Tim came in to present to us a fantastic mash up of his traditional landscape work and his interpretation of some of the data that our analytics teams produce on a daily and weekly basis. His initial pieces are beautiful and complex worlds more akin to the visions of the great Science Fiction writers such as William Gibson, Isaac Asimov and Brian Aldiss, and artists of their day such as Chris Foss.
Greeted with a raised beer and interested discussion Tim told us the story of his passion for his medium, and shared with us inspiration for fulfillment in our work – a lovely end to the week.
